Some students use social networks, but not all of them. The majority of people use social networks to keep in touch with friends and family, particularly if they are far from home (ie - University is in a different city). Social networks are also slowly becoming a way to get news updates as well as find jobs. However, not all students use social networks out of personal preference. Others just don't like to have their details online for the world to see. Social networks also have a sinister side. It is extremely easy to stalk and track down people via social networks. There are many cases of physical or sexual violence across the globe as a result of people being tracked down through social networks. There is also the danger if identity theft - your details and images could be stolen by someone pretending to be you for mischievous reasons. One of the main issues these days is cyberbullying, which happens a lot on social networks, putting people off having accounts on them. So, to answer your question - some but not all students use social networks.
