What are the USB ports for on PlayStation 3?
The USB ports on the PlayStation 3 can be used for a variety of items, including (but not limited to) memory sticks or external disk drives for copying data (music, video, or photos) to or from the system, backing up the system, or saving game data; printers; charging the SIXAXIS wireless controllers; and attaching the external PS2 memory card adapter.
The USB ports in the front of the PS3 can not be used to connect to the internet. this quote is from the PlayStation related link: "PlayStation 3 is unable to connect to the Internet through the USB port, it must be connected via an Ethernet cord or via Wi-Fi network. You will not be able to use a USB adaptor or a cell phone USB adaptor with the PlayStation 3."

No the really old ones with 4 USB ports did but the ones you buy now do not and have not for years. No they dont because i have a ps2 and a ps3 and i have tryed and they dont work at all. Not if you just brought a new PS3. People who has a PS3 that play PS2 games purchased it because they knew which older model to get. All the PS3 models with only 2 USB ports to plug your charger cable into do not play PS2 games. You need to find one of the first models with 4 USB ports and then it will play some PS2 game titles.

There is no minimum or required number for USB ports on a laptop. Depending on the age and design of the laptop, it could be anywhere from zero to ten. I have seen only 2 USB ports on older laptops, most of the new ones atleast have 4 USB ports. Netbooks(10" & 11") have not more than 2 USB ports.
