ROM advantage is that generally once it is written to it will be there forever. ROM are often used in fixed situation like the chip that runs a dishwashes, aninexpensive writswatch, etc also, it does not require a constant source of electricity.

Read only memory (usually known by its acronym, ROM) is a class of storage media used in computers and other electronic devices. Because data stored in ROM cannot be modified (at least not very quickly or easily), it is mainly used to distribute firmware (software that is very closely tied to specific hardware, and unlikely to require frequent updates).

Every stored program computer requires some form of non volatile, or erasable, storage to store the initial program that runs when the computer is powered on or otherwise begins execution (a process known as bootstrapping, often abbreviated to "booting" or "booting up"). Likewise, every non volatile computer requires some form of mutable memory to record changes in its state as it executes.

Since ROM (at least in hard wired mask form) cannot be modified, it is really only suitable for storing data which is not expected to need modification for the life of the device. To that end, ROM has been used in many computers to store look up tables for the evaluation of mathematical and logical functions (for example, a floating point unit might tabulate the sine function in order to facilitate faster computation). This was especially effective when CPUs were slow and ROM was cheap compared to RAM.

Ram has an adv that we can write on erase etc. but its dis is that data on it is temporary.

Rom has an adv that it have temporary data. but its dis is that we cannot change in it any thing.

ROM or "read-only memory" cannot be altered. Once a ROM chip or other ROM media is created, it cannot be changed by user-accessable means and is therefore inflexible.

i wanna no ma self :D i fink disadvantages is : ROM can't be changed or re-created when a media or programme has been made. but then it also can be advantage

Does a rewritable CD acts as a ROM or RAM?

Neither. Both ROM and RAM are memory. A CD is a form of storage, which has nothing to do with memory.

What does RAM and ROM have in common?

Both hold stores data

Compare and contrast RAM and ROM?

RAM is an acronym for Random Access Memory; ROM is an acronym for Read Only Memory. Both RAM and ROM are random access; that is, each cell in memory is directly accessible. The cells in RAM can be both read from and written to. The cells in ROM can only be read from. The bit pattern in ROM is determined at the time of manufacture or burned when the computer is assembled. Once a ROM has been burned (written), it cannot be changed. Another major difference is that RAM is volatile and ROM is not. This means that RAM does not maintain its bit patterns when the power is turned off, but ROM does.

Similarities between ram and rom?

There are none as RAM allows random write access while ROM only allows read access (the very reason why it's called ROM because it stands for Read-Only Memory).

What are the similarities between RAM and ROM?

Both of them serve for somewhat similar purpose ie storing Although in a different way. ROM /BIOS (BASIC INPUT OUTPUT SYSTEM ) Both of them have flat shape . RAM (Random Access Memory) can be modified. ROM ( Read only memory) is just that, Read only. Both are "chip" based memory, but only RAM can me modified.
