Some would say it allows more unity in the government, actually it requires more unity with government. In very few environments where people are involved (as opposed to say, bees) are every ones interests reflected in a one-party system. Things can get done faster in a one-party system, such as important damn being built quickly and flooding out the resident citizens. In a one-party system there are no competing interests, at least none that are recognized.

The reality is that one-party systems are more dependent on personalities, especially the personality at the top, than multi-party systems. They can be more "stable" in the leadership arena, but changes in leadership usually come with significant loss of life and property.
