Advantages of Non-conventional machining:
1) High accuracy and surface finish
2) no direct contact of tool and workpiece, so there is less/no wear
3) tool life is more
4 ) quieter operation
Disadvantages of non-conventional machining:
1) high cost
2) complex set-up
3) skilled operator required
in convetional machinging process, there should be alaways contact b/w
tool and work piece but in ucm there need not be
In ordinary machining we use harder tool to work on workpiece , this limitation is overcome by unconventional machining. unconventional machining is directly using some sort of indirect energy for machining. Example : sparks, lasers, heat , chemicals etc.. applied in EDM ,laser cutting machines...etc
conventional machining is that in which the control of removal of material is either by automatic machines or by man handled.while cnc machinig is that in which control of machining process is done by computes or through programming.
Non conventional Machining is a recent development in machining techniques. It is based on unconventional machining techniques using Laser beam, Electron beam, Electric arc etc. Conventional machining involves the direct contact of tool and work -piece, whereas unconventional machining does not require the direct contact of tool and wor piece. Conventional machining has many disadvantages like tool wear which are not present in Non-conventional machining. Examples : Electric arc machining, Laser cutting , electro discharge machining, plasma cutting etc Advantages of Non-conventional machining: 1) High accuracy and surface finish 2) no direct contact of tool and workpiece, so there is less/no wear 3) tool life is more 4 ) quieter operation Disadvantages of non-conventional machining: 1) high cost 2) complex set-up 3) skilled operator required
The two major categories of machining are "conventional maching" and "CNC (computer numerical control) machining." The actual metal cutting process is the same. The difference is in how the tool path is controlled as it cuts the workpiece. "Conventional machining" (also known as "manual machining") is generally regarded as using manually controlled machines, particularly lathes, mills and drill presses. The tool moves around the work by mechanical controls that are manually controlled. "CNC machining" is generally regarded as using lathes and mills (and some other machine types) in which all tool and workpiece motion is controlled by a computer.

The process approach in writing to teaching OR in management ?
Machining process is a broad term that refers to the cutting processes, abrasive processes and the non-traditional machining processes.
Computer numerical control (CNC) machining has many benefits over manual machining. To begin, CNC machining is more reliable and accurate because it does not rely on physical labor. With its multi-axis capability, simultaneous operations, and automatic tool changes, it improves production efficiency. CNC machines provide for more freedom of design because they can easily create sophisticated geometries and patterns. CNC machining also facilitates quicker production turnarounds, lowers labor costs, and makes part reproduction less labor intensive. CNC machining has many advantages over traditional machining techniques, including greater accuracy, repeatability, and overall productivity, and the ability to work with a wide variety of materials.
