Some of the advantages are that as a gatherer and or hunter you can get your food pretty much whenever you choose, another advantage is that it means you only have to carry back a couple of things, not a whole shopping cart. Some of the disadvantages however is that you don't have as many choices, and you would have to gut and skin the animal yourself.
