With a power station in close proximity you are less likely to experience brown-outs or even black-outs. This is for a similar reason to why broadband works better in large population centres; the further you are from the exchange the more diluted and weaker the signal becomes. Another advantage could be that many people do not want to live near power stations. Therefore people are less likely to move to the area from other areas. This means house prices should always remain affordable to the children of people who have always lived there. While this advantage works in theory, the reality of it is far more complicated. There will also always be jobs for the local residents. This is true of living near any industry. Where power stations are concerned, it is more likely to be the local residents who understand, and hence dont fear the proximity of the station. For this reason local residents make ideal workers.

By having shorter linear transmission distances, less power will attenuate as wasted energy. This can be very important for smaller generation facilities who require a shorter ROI. Solar Farms, Wind Turbine Installations, Hydroelectric are the best candidates for this type of installation as other varieties of power generation would prove too dangerous or environmentally unsound.
