Depends on the use. If the computer is being used for gaming, a graphics card is almost required. If it is just being used for word processing or web searching, then a present graphics card may not be needed.

∙ 6y agoModern graphics cards use a type of special purpose microprocessor called a graphics processor unit (GPU) that performs the calculations to manage the symbology on the display, saving the main CPU in the computer from having to perform these calculations and freeing more CPU time for execution of the programs and operating system.
On earlier computers that only used video cards the main CPU had to do everything, which also often caused unstable displays when the programs demanded a lot of CPU time and it was not able to keep up with the video frame rate or became desynchronized with the video blanking period.
