Asexual reproduction is perfect for an organism that lives in harsh conditions. The organism is able to produce offspring without worry of finding another organism who is of the opposite sex. Also, this ensures that the genetic information that allows the current organism to live in these harsh conditions is transferred to its offspring.

If you consider bacteria...they don't have to search for a mate and when they reproduce all of a sudden the populations go exponential!

There are not really any advantages as an animal may only produce asexually when they have been without a partner for several years it is most common in reptiles particularly in lizards.
