The main advantage of using sinusoidal waveform is that any waveform can be represented using a sinusoidal wave (by applying Fourier series). Also, analysing a circuit (or any other system) becomes simpler and easier using sinusoidal signal as test signal.

∙ 10y agoThis is only used when doing simple AC circuit analysis to keep the mathematics simple. Wait until you learn how to apply Fourier and S transforms to circuit analysis so that you can study the effects of complicated nonsinusoidal waves composed of many frequencies on the circuit.
