I would think that it would depend a great deal upon a) who is in the audience and b) the actress who is playing Lady Macbeth.
I do not agree, she immediately comes over as a manipulative woman (as I have seen the play several times , I can comment) who would stop at nothing to protect her man, or to advance his prowess...brilliant play
He was a very ambitious man, with a manipulative wife.....so that can easily relate today to big business...don't you think ? Indeed Macbeth has proved easy to mount by portraying him as a crime boss, as was done in the 2006 film starring Sam Worthington.

I think Shakespeare fails to develop sufficiently the characters of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth early in the play, so their murderous ambition seems awkward. Of course, Shakespeare's audiences would have likely already known the story, as very few plotlines in Shakespeare are original, and so this may have been less troublesome to his audiences than to modern ones.
