Benefits. When its working properly, which is most of the time if properly configured from day one, then it makes life so much easier for admins.
Drawbacks. If its not configured properly then it can cause alot of hassle. It presents a security issue (though there are counter-techniques) but personally I like every machine to have its own static IP, especially in a classroom situtation - its a bit more hassle and takes a bit longer to configure but i personally think its worth it.
