Worry a little less about "eye catching" and a little more about spelling. Maybe you could "format" your resume rather than "formate" it. Employers want to know that you're able to perform the simple tasks, like spelling. If you can't do that, your resume goes in the trash before they take a second look. Just make it simple, clean and to the point. Whatever style you use just needs to introduce YOU. Employers are looking for someone who will be a good employee, follow directions and has an IQ that is at least a little higher than a turnip.

The most important thing, is probably how other human beings view you. In other words, recommendation letters. For Jobs, it's good to have a fair degree of experience and competence, and a college diploma doesn't necessarily hurt either. For college, well, unfortunately SAT scores and GPA still matters a lot. For state Universities, at least. Liberal arts colleges will put more emphasis on extracurricular activities and electives.

This answer needs improvement, so if you want to take this advice, but by no means use it without caution and your own personal judgement.

You can really make your resume stand out from the crowd by making sure that it is a powerful document that clearly explains why you are the most qualified individual for the advertised (or non advertised position). By including a clear objective, stellar qualifications and an impressive work history, you can really make an impact. In addition, you want to include power words and make sure that the format stands out. By doing this, you will stand out!

Just make it simple. Don't use color fonts or highlighter to show your special skills. Just make your resume simple by mentioning your clear career objective followed by your work experience or skills. Still you are confused of writing a resume, then choose professional help for many online resume writers.

Develop a FULL resume with every thing in it dates, responsibilities for each job you've had, don't be selective here as this is a resume that will be continually updated (CPD Continual Professional Development). This will act as a main source to customise each resume you have to use. differing jobs may require you to highlight slightly different skills and experience from previous employment. In addition you can then cut and paste much of the important data to the "customised version".

This is a time saver and because you've taken time to proof read each section and undertake spell checks you will save time in getting the polished version ready to dispatch. Read the job advert ,look for key points the employer wants, make sure these should up clearly in the resume. Never, try to over sell the skill. Good interviews can see this and will drill you on these areas. Know the resume fully as you WILL be asked questions on its content - not knowing makes the interviewer believe that its a a work of fiction.

Use different colour paper to white for the stand out effect. but don't use glaringly bright colours i.e. fluorescent colour are a massive turn off. subtle yellows, creams and blues work well as the resume with stand out in a pile of white sheets .

start with your contact details as normal, follow with a nice profile of you, work through in reverse any employment. i.e. current employment first. If the applied job is not similar as you currently do provide small t 4 line of responsibilities thus allowing you to use more line of fact when a job you've done meets the needs of the new job.

This is where knowing the keys applications comes in if it says for example much have cash handling skills and you've been employed somewhere handing money push this forward and the responsibility required to handle than money previously. professionally written resumes are fine but they are someone else's understanding of your history and this frequently stands out at interview to an experienced interviewer.

Keep to black fonts. Basic script is better i.e. Aerial 12.

As stated keep where possible to one page even if this is duplex.

Always be prepared to change the resume content to highlight skills required against your skills.

Make it pretty. When you look at it from 5 feet away, it should look good. Be consistent with the use of capitalization, punctuation and bold and/or italic font. Don't use tiny type - it should be easy to read. Keep it un-cluttered and organized. Use spell-check! Proof read it numerous times and have someone else proof read it. It should be perfect.Have your name and contact info prominent and easy to find. Most importantly: Keep it to one page. If it doesn't fit on one page start deleting and condensing. Do not break this rule. Summarize instead of detail. Eliminate sections (Objective, Outside Interests, etc.). If your 37 professional certifications won't fit. pick the most important and add "and 36 more." The one page rule accomplishes two things: First, your potential employer is probably reading dozens of resumes. They will be pleased that you did not make their task any longer than it needs to be; and secondly, if you create some interest but leave some questions unanswered (I wonder what those other 36 certifications are?), the employer must contact you to get more info. Remember, the purpose of a resume is not to get you a job...it is to get you an interview.
