A Reading from the Book of Jeremiah
The word of the LORD came to me thus:
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations,
I appointed you.
This means that long before you were born, God knew you as a person. Before you were born He dedicated you; He knew you would have a special misson. As a prophet to your own family and friends. He knew the infulence you would have on others. He knew you would speak as a prophet when you are honest, truthful, and concerned for the World of God in the lives of others.
"Ah, LORD GOD!" I said
"I know not how to speak; I am too young"
This is true. You don't know how to speak at times so that you may be understood and apperciated. You are too young, but you have something to offer: Your love, your youth, your hope, your trust, your honesty.
But the LORD answered me.
Say not. "I am too young"
To whomever I send you, you shall go:
whatever I command you, you shall speak.
You speak from your experiances. You speak because the LORD gives you what to say. you must speak in His name. You must speak about what you believe in; what you hope for, what you love.
"Have no fear before them, because I am with you, says the LORD."
Do not be afraid, God who has given you life is and will be with you. He will be present to be your Strength, your Courage, your Hope. He will always be with you.
Then the LORD extended His hand and touched my mouth, Saying, See I place my words in your mouth!
This day I set you over nations and over kingdoms to root up and to tear down, to destroy and demolish, to build and to plant.
