Draft horse breeds are becoming more popular all the time. Although not as widespread as saddle horse breeds theses wonderful horses can be found almost anyplace there are people. A hundred years after these 'gentle giants' were replaced by machines, there are more of them then ever before. They are being crossbred with different, lighter breeds to create new breeds and different types of horses.
Technically, the only hot blooded horses are Arabians and Thoroughbreds. The cold blooded horses are the draft breeds. All other breeds are warm bloods.
They are Clydesdales! Absolutely georgeous darlings!! Love those budwiser Commercials!
Somewhat, their numbers are not as high as they once were, but they are one of the more popular draft breeds.
Sort of. Draft horses are a type of horse that includes a number of breeds, including Belgians, Percherons and Clydesdales.
Most of the light horse breeds and ponies can jump. While the draft breeds are currently being used to cross breed and produce larger horses for jumping they are generally too large to hold up to jumping themselves.
The long hair on the backs of the larger breeds are called 'feathers'. But there are other breeds besides drafts that have these wonderful hairy extensions. Fresians also have feathers but are not considered a draft horse. One of the most popular 'feathered' horses are the beautiful Clydesdale horses, most recognized as the Budwieser Horses, pulling the old-fashioned beer wagons of yesteryear.
Back in the middle ages heavier draft breeds, Friesians, and certain carriage breeds were used quite often, as was the Spanish -Norman horse.
there are many breeds with "feathers" (the long hair around the hooves) they are mainly heavy breeds, the most common are: . Cobs . Gypsy Vanner . haflingers . Shires . Clydesdale (clides-dale) . draft . Percheron
their main function was to pull heavy machinery and plough fields.
Feathers are right above the hooves. They are not actually feathers but long hairs found on draft horses.
light horses are used for riding whereas draft horses are used for agricultural work or usually other forms of hard labor. light horses have a lighter frame with a more ummm.. Flowing movement? but draft horses are larger and heavier and stronger and more muscular.
