A misdemeanor is punishable by a fine not exceeding 1,000.00 dollars and/or not exceeding one year in jail or both in most jurisdictions it can range from petty theft to disorderly conduct. There are hundreds and possibly thousands of crimes which fit in the classification of misdemeanor crimes and impossible to list all of them.

There are generally 2 categories of misdemeanors. 1st and 2nd degree. The difference between the two depends on the degree of punishment. For example, in Florida, a 1st degree misdemeanor is punishable up to a year in county jail, while a 2nd degree misdemeanor is not.

It would depend on the misdemeanors in question, and how long ago they occurred. By and large the police are more concerned with felonies you were found guilty of rather than misdemeanors. However, New York is a notoriously difficult state to deal with where firearms are concerned misdemeanors or not.
