Following the end of The Great War (WW I), the "Red Scare" developed in the United States. It was partly caused by a fear of communists, socialists, anarchists, immigrants, and radical labor groups that were developing in industrialized nations at this time. Plus, the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia also added to the fear that communism might prove to be a true menace to the political, social, and economic life of the US. A series of anarchist bombings in the nation caused this fear to increase among the population. Because many, including government officials, feared that a Bolshevik type of revolution was near at hand, innocent people were jailed, and the civil liberties of many were ignored. In the early years of the 1920s, the scare seemed to disappear as quickly as it had begun.
