Acid rains are a result of heavy pollution. They generally fall around factory or heavy industry levels, where lots of sulphur pollution is released into the atmosphere. There is always some acidity in the rain, as CO2 or carbon dioxide reacts with the hydrogen and oxygen in rain clouds, forming carbonic acid (H2CO3). The worst cases of acid rain are generally caused by sulphuric acid created from sulphur pollution from heavy industry. The sulphur gas reacts with the rain just like carbon, and forms the highly acidic sulfuric acid, (H2SO4).
