∙ 15y agoAsbestos can cause disease but this process is not considered to be a case of "poisoning." Asbestos diseases are caused by breathing in asbestos fibers. Some believe, but with less supporting evidence, that drinking water containing asbestos fibers can cause stomach cancer. The fibers appear to physically interfere with the metabolism of cells in which they become stuck, leading eventually to disease in some people.
