The movement of materials into and out of the cell
the movement of materials into and out of the cell
Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells are similar in which of the following ways?
Particles in a given medium stop moving across the membrane during diffusion when a state of equilibrium is reached, that is when the number of particles on either side of the membrane equalizes.
Osmosis. In this process water is moved in or out of the cell to reach an isotonic concentration. Meaning that both sides of the cell membrane will be of equal strength.
They are both double membraned / a double unit membrane
They are similar, but they are located in different places. PM's (plasma membrane) enclose the entire cell, regulating what enters and leaves the cell. NM's (nuclear membrane) enclose only the nucleus, but basically have the same structure and function.
The cell membrane and water are both involved in "Osmosis" the making of Chloroplasts.
osmosis, the making of chloroplasts
the plasma membrane.
When will water stop moving across a membrane when the water concentration is equal on both sides.
Both have a cell membrane, genetic material, and ribosomes.
Osmosis is the movement of water across a membrane so there will be an equal concentration of solute and water on both sides of the membrane.
Both have a cell membrane, genetic material, and ribosomes.
An enclosed fence with doors. Though as with every analogy, it isn't perfect because the cellular membrane is fluid, its parts move about, whereas a fence's parts do not. A cell membrane is also not made up of only one material like homogenous fences are. Also, a cell membrane that has water inside and out self organises into a double layer, where both the inner and outer surface have a chemical affinity for water.
Trans-membrane proteins that can be used for active or passive transport of material into and out of the cell.
Facilitated diffusion occurs in order to maintain homeostasis within a cell. If there is more of something, such as water, inside a cell than outside the cell, diffusion allows the water to flow out of the cell so that an equal amount of water molecules exists both inside and outside the membrane. This requires little or no energy from the cell itself. Active transport is when the cell takes in or excretes material through the membrane so that the amount of material inside and outside the membrane is different. This requires energy from the cell to occur.
Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells are similar in which of the following ways?
Because both cells have a double membrane bound nucleus containing the genetic material and both have many membrane bound organelles.
