That depends on the frequency of tornadoes in the area and the period of time you are talking about. You are a lot more likely to see two tornadoes hit the same place if you watch it for a century than if you watch it for only a year. On the whole it is very unlikely for any given spot to be hit twice in a person's lifetime.

That being said, the "lightning never strike twice" rule does not apply. Getting hit by one tornado does not mean you are less likely to be hit by another.

Can school be closed if under a tornado watch?

A tornado watch usually does not warrant school closure as even when one is issued the chances of a tornado striking any given location are very low. Tornado warnings, which indicate a more imminent threat, are issued on too short a time scale for school closures.

Why might people live in an area affected by a tornado?

Technically almost any place can be affected by tornadoes. Tornado Alley, which has a high rate if tornadoes, offers good farmland. Tornadoes are just one hazard, and your chances of taking a direct hit from a strong tornado are actually quite low. Your chances of getting injured or killed by a tornado are even lower. No place is without its hazards. For example: major cities, especially on the east coast of the U.S., have problems with pollution and high crimes rates and far more people in the U.S. are murdered than are killed by tornadoes.

Can more than one tornado happen at the same time in a different place?

Yes, this occurs sometimes during tornado outbreaks.

Can more than one tornado hit one spot?

Yes. After an area has been hit by a tornado the odds of a tornado striking it in the future are the same as they were before. One notable case is the town of Harvest, Alabama. On April 3, 1974 it was struck by an F5 tornado, followed by another F5 less than an hour later. Harvest was then struck by an F4 tornado in 1995, an EF5 tornado in 2011, and an EF3 tornado in 2012. The 2012 tornado destroyed homes being rebuilt following the one in 2011.

Why are tornado warnings short?

Tornado warnings are short because tornadoes themselves usually do not last long, usually no more than a few minutes. (A tornado waring means that a tornado has either been detected or may be imminent.) Even when tornadoes do last a long time they usually don't stay in the same place for long. Because of this, the tornado threat from a thunderstorm in any given place will usually not last more than twenty minutes. If the threat persists then a warning may be renwed.

Is bulkhead a safe place during tornado?

It probably would be as long as its on the lowest floor of your building. Generally speaking, the more walls you have between yourself and the outside during a tornado, the better.
