I am not aware of the Purple Heart ever being made with pure gold. The medallion that is made today is actually a brass core that has been anodized to the gold color.
Gold is malleable. Soft. It can easily be scratched, and cut with a knife, in comparison with brass for instance. In the "old days", they tested gold coins by biting them, and if it left teeth marks, it was considered a good bet to be gold. Hence, where an athlete who wins a gold medal pretends to bite the medal for camera shots/poses, comes from.
No not really the gold medal has 92.5% silver
the 1st place medal is gold and heavy
The gold medal is 1.34% gold and 92.5% silver.
gold medal game for what event?
Gold, definitely. How about fixing this question as to what type of "brass" There is Yellow brass 60% Copper 40% Zinc and the more common red brass 85% copper and 15% Zinc then there is Muntz metal and Bronze thus BRASS = COPPER as there is NO gold content in "Brass"
A gold medal plus a little appreciation. :)
