There are many contributing factors to diabetes. Here are the ones applicable to Type 2 Diabetes:

  • Unhealthy Diet,

  • High Cholesterol,
  • and History of Gestational Diabetes.

For Type 1 Diabetes, there are less contributing factors. Exposure to a viral illness, is one of these factors. Type 1 Diabetes could be the result of your white blood cells attacking the pancreas in response to a viral illness, which produces the insulin in the body.

Also, you are more likely to have Type 1 Diabetes if you are a child, young adult or teenager, and have someone in the family with this type of diabetes.
