Without any knowledge of the drug: I was put on tranxene in 1973 and each attempt to take me off of it puts me in the ER with severe hypertension, and arterial fibulation, why is this and how can I explain this to doctors who are hesitant about refilling my prescriptions.

Tranxene is unique among benzos. It's unreliable absorption makes it more inaccurate to measure half-life, elimination, etc. It's a prodrug and the principal active metabolite nordiazepam has a half-life of up to 200 hours and can stay in the body for up to a week in detectable quantities (much like Valium). Of course like all drugs, the more you use the longer it tends to linger in your system.
