The children were given lots of different punishments like the cane, cleaning out the church, the bucket were they were hung in the air in a basket above their class and they would be given twice the work to do whilst they were in there! It really was a cruel life for Victorian school children so they slowly began banning these cruel punishments and sadly some of these punishments still go on in other countries.
Well.. in Victorian times teachers was a lot stricter than usual but now we have some strict teachers and soft teachers and we have a lot of new things and they get beaten with a long thick stick now teachers are not allowed to hit us with it or else they would be arrested.
