Both are good in their own ways. Goats can provide dairy, and sheep can provide wool. Sheep can also provide meat, but so can goats, so it really depends what your needs are.
There are some types of sheep that you don't have to sheer, but both animals are a lot of work to maintain, so it also depends what your budget is.
To begin: THEY ARE ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SPECIES. Yes, while they are related, they have critical differences which help distinguish them.
Sheep grow wool, goats do not.
Goats have facial hair on their chins that are "GOATees" (try googling it if you don't know this masculine facial hair looks like). Sheep have very tidy faces with practically no facial hair.
Then Goats always have horns, male or female. Sheep usually don't have horns, except some species of sheep but are usually on the males.
To make it simple:
If it has horns, looks kinda skinny, and has facial hair- its a goat.
If it doesn't have big pointy horns, looks kinda fluffy, and has a soft-looking face- its a sheep.
If it has big curly horns, looks buff, and its staring you down- Watch out! its actually a RAM!
A sheep is an adult animal over one year of age and a lamb is under one year of age.
They both are ruminants, can have more than one offspring at a time, and can both be used for milk and meat production.
one's a goat and one's a dog.
The cow's or steer's meat is beef; the sheep's meat is lamb or mutton; the pig's meat is pork.
