Plasma is often referred to as the fourth state of matter.Plasma is formed from superheated gas. When gas is heated to scorching temperatures, the electrons in the gas absorb the thermal energy and are ejected from the gas atoms.As a result, the gas is now a mass of ionised atoms and a cloud of electrons. Remember that both the negatively charged electrons as well as the ions are free to move at great speeds; since in a gas, the molecules are not bound together. Therefore, we can expect numerous collisions to happen between them and when it does, a lot of energy is released in the process. In a liquid however, the molecules are bound to some extent and therefore their movement is relatively resticted when compared to that of a gas. A liquid always takes the shape of the container in which it is placed.
