Christians were called Nazarenes or Galileans during the first few years in the Church's history. "Nazarene", therefore, is just an obsolete name for Christian. A Catholic is a member of the Catholic Church who accepts all that the Church teaches as true. A Catholic is a Nazarene.

Answer:Nazarene is an obsolete name for a christian, however, there is a difference in today's since from the time that it was used to mean that. The term Nazarene in the modern church refers to Jesus, but also refers to members or attendees of the Church of the Nazarene. The beliefs of the Church of the Nazarene and the Catholic Church are very different, the first being that the Church of the Nazarene is protestant. Examining this question in that light a Catholic is NOT a Nazarene. The Church of the Nazarene is a Holiness Church in the Wesleyan/Armenian Tradition.

I am no expert, but Christian Reformed appears to be an off-shoot of the Calvanist teachings. Some of the differences, based on the Christian Reformed Church's own website, include:

CRC=Christian Reformed Church

RC=Roman Catholic

-Salvation is by grace alone through faith (CRC), and not by our own good works (RC says faith *and* good works.)

-The Bible alone is the authoritative Word of God, not traditions or church leaders. (Jesus gave Peter Permanent authority on earth and in Heaven; as for traditions, they are symbols to draw us to God, and make us remember and meditate on aspects of holiness.)

-All believers are priests of God, anointed in Christ to serve him always, everywhere, in all they do. (RC-Only 'anointed' ones are apostles, chosen by God, but anyone can be a disciple.)

-God gave us two sacraments, baptism and communion, which are signs and seals of God's promises. (What about marriage? And reconciliation? Confirmation developed out of necessity as Christianity spread. Holy Orders is related to the above.)

-A clergy's blessing of the communion bread and wine do not really turn them into the actual body and blood of Christ.The original sinful condition in which we are born as well as our actual sins are all fully washed away by Christ's one sacrifice on the cross. (RC believes that the bread and wine is transubstantiated into the body and blood of Christ.)

-Prayer should be directed to God alone, not to saints or to Mary. In fact, all believers are both sinners needing God's constant forgiveness and saints whom the Holy Spirit is already remaking to be like Jesus. (RC-reveres and petitions saints on behalf of God, but doesn't worship them. CRC believes the Apostle's Creed, one point of which is the Communion of Saints.)

These comparison points were pulled from CRC's own website.

This is of course, my biased opinion, and it's probably obvious which one I side with. I've attempted not to be confrontational, but I *strongly* encourage you to research each on your own, and from as unbiased sides as possible.

My family is registered as Baptist and that religion is our core belief. We were invited to a Nazerene Church and loved it. We decided not to let "the little things" get in our way of finding a good church, since they are few and far between in our area. But we don't want to turn a blind eye to some things. This particular Nazerene church doesn't go into deep detail in their Mission Statement and church bio. Please enlighten me.

What is the differences between the Nazarene church and the Christian Reformed Church?

The main theological differences have to do with the question of Free Will versus Pre desitination. The Nazarene Church comes from The Armanian tradition which believes that humanity has the choice to accept or reject salvation through Christ. The reformed church comes from the tradition of Calvin (and earlier Augustine) which teaches that humanity is so completely depraved and blinded by sin, that people are incapable of choosing Christ for themselves. Reform Christians believe that salvation is entirely God's work and He performs that work in whom he has predestined according to His divine wisdom. In my opinion both theological systems teach salvation through Grace as supplied by Christ's sacrifice on the cross, and therefore teach what is biblicaly required for salvation to take place.

The Church of the Nazarene is a protestant church that was founded in 1908. The Catholic Church is Christianity as established by Jesus Christ in A.D. 33 and guaranteed by Him until the end of the world, He send the Holy Spirit to guide it always and said that it would remain ONE until the end of the world. The Church of the Nazarene is one of the heresies which split off from heresies which split off from the Catholic Church in the sixteenth century. The Catholic Church contains all the sacraments which Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ left us for our salvation, and the entire Bible that was established by the Church in the fourth century. The Church of the Nazarene might have a valid baptism, but lacks all the other sacraments as it lacks a valid priesthood, it also has a truncated Bible.
