The differences between any alpha and beta is that alpha comes before beta. Alpha is when the game is pretty much roughed out and still has lots of bugs and mechanical issues. Beta is when there are only the little bugs left to fix and is almost ready to be released.

It's all about your style of playing. minecraft Beta has lots of things aside from constructing and surviving, while Alpha has a lean surviving concept that has building and nearly nothing more. If you are looking forward for new things, such as biomes, beds, weather, and hunger, then you'll pick Beta. If you just want a simple constructing game with nothing getting in the way of building, then Alpha is the version for you. More updates does NOT mean that it gets better.

There are a few differences, but 2 big ones. 1. You can now throw eggs by selecting them then right clicking with them. 2. Leaf decay. It's also noted that beta is a little laggier.
