Republicans generally support limited government, individual liberty, and pluralism as a means toward achieving individual freedom. Republicans do not believe in a class system, and are more focused upon economic liberty than Democrats.

Democrats, historically a radical and racialist party, were transformed into a quasi-socialist party following the Southern Revolution that altered America's political balance in the 1960's. Democrats appear to support more government intervention, use of government power to redistribute the fruits of our labor to the lazy as well as unfortunate, and statist intervention to remedy the wrongs of society.

Generally, Republican politicians and leaders optimize bad situations. Democrats tend to use emotional arguments as a basis for inconsistent, but inevitably liberty-destroying intervention by government into individuals' rights to property, individual opinions, and religious freedom.

Where in the political spectrum do republicans and democrats stand?

The Republican part of the United states is firmly right-of-centre, with many leaders holding moderate-authoritarian views. The Democratic party is a centrist party, with most leaders falling slightly to the right of centre and holding moderate-authoritarian views.

Are democrats more conservative than republicans?

Using the US-specific definitions of Conservative and Liberal (which, differ greatly from most of the rest of the world), as a party, the Democratic Party is less conservative than the Republican Party. Now, this obviously also depends on the politicians under discussion. In addition, we usually split a politician's views on economics from those on social issues. So, it is entirely possible to have a politician who holds mostly Liberal views on social issues, and mostly Conservative views on financial/economic issues. And, the inverse is also possible (though, less common).

How did Republican ideas differ from democrat?

The first difference prior to the Civil War was that the Republican Party opposed slavery while the Democratic Party supported it, and the Whig Party did not take a firm stand either way. The Democratics supported US involvement in World War 2 while the Republicans were isolationist. The Democrats usually believe in gun control, gay marriage, abortion, and bigger government, while the Republicans generally claim to oppose these.

What do the Republicans do?

Their job is to obstruct foolish legislation as much as possible. Republicans are attempting to reinvent themselves as Conservatives, which are the true patriots of the American dream. Left wings extremists are attempting to use the current progressive movement to socialize America and turn it into a third world country.

Where in the ideology do republicans and democrats stand?

Good question. Ideology is, essentially, the way one thinks about the world around them. It is a collection of beliefs and world views. "World views" includes how you think about your neighborhood as well as how you think about the world.Republicans and Democrats are members of the dominant American political parties and choose their affiliation, to some extent, on the basis of their personal ideology. What you find out when you look broadly is that the ideologies of the two political parties are not different at all. Both believe in the "American Dream." They are both comfortable with the political institutions in the country. They both expect foreign policy to protect and extend American interests. It is only when you look in a more narrow fashion at individual policy differences do you see any significant differentiation in ideology. One might suggest that the issue comes down to the basic nature of man. Republicans see man as essentially evil and stained with original sin and Democrats see man as essentially good and imbued with the potential of godliness. Two very different approaches, but on the larger questions not much difference at all.
