First are the producers eg.plants (they take energy from the sun for photosynthesis to make glucose, starch and other high energy sugars) then primary consumers that eat the plants (who benefit from these sugars)eg.insects of some sort (herbivores) then secondary consumers that eat the primary consumers eg.birds (carnivores) then the tertiary consumer or 'top predator' eats the secondary consumer eg.fox (carnivores) food chains have very few levels as alot of the energy gained through consumption of another animal is used for the process of life eg. for heat, to respire etc. this food chain could not sustain another predator as there would simply not be enough enery left to sustain them
Depends On Which One You're Talking About, I Think You're Talking bout The Primary Consumers, Secondary Consumers, And The Tertiary Consumers.
Within an ecological food chain, consumers are categorized into three groups: primary consumers, secondary consumers, and the tertiary consumers.
