The strings are paired in courses, but they only have four or five courses of strings rather than six. They are called stanford strings.

How do you care for an electric guitar?

1. If you are not comforatble, your guitar is not either. Do not leave your guitar in excessive heat or cold, such as in your car over night in the middle of January 2. Change strings as needed. If the guitar begins to not hold a tune, its time for new strings. You also know you need strings if they feel rough and uncomfortable on your hands, are rusty or dirty, and oviously if they are broken. A good way to prolong the lives of your strings is to take a soft towel and whipe down the neck and fretboard after playing. Your hands have a lot of junk that mess up strings. 3. Most importantly, do not get all caught up in the rocking and smash the guitar... you aren't Pete Townshend =]

Do you play two strings on a guitar at the same time?

Yes, when it is needed. YOu can use any combination of strings, so using all 6 at the same time is just as common as using one string.

What is a truss rod?

It's a long rod lodged up in the neck of a guitar used for keeping the neck of the guitar straight. The truss rod is used to allow the neck to bend either way in response to the tension of the strings. Without it, there would be no steel string guitars, the neck wouldn't be able to handle the tension of the strings. Many beginners think that adjusting the truss rod will lower the "action" or how high the strings are from the fret board of the guitar. This is not entirely true and it is probably more of a Nut and saddle/bridge adjustment that is needed.

How is the sound of a guitar produced?

by vibration of the strings. EDIT: The vibrations of the strings are the source of the sound needed to be produced. They are electronically picked up and send to an amplifier to process the vibration many times it's audibility. This is how the sound is produced and vibrations are the source of all sound in the universe.

What is the difference between Bass Guitar and Electric Guitar. What else should you buy with your first one?

A bass guitar has a longer neck and only four strings while an electric guitar has six strings. For both I would say buy an amp and most likely lessons as well, but if this is a little out of the budget, the amps is not needed and while lessons would help, a simple guitar/bass method book should suffice. An electric guitar is louder and a ''lead'' guitar. A bass,is lower pitch/sound to keep the song balenced. NOTE:if you wear headphones while listing to a song, you'll here the bass.

Can you combine guitar strings with bass strings on an electric guitar and if so what thickness should you use?

not really recommended... guitar necks are designed to absorb a certain amount of tension (if im not mistaken about 25kg) bass strings when tuned to pitch have much greater tension and can break the neck. i just got a broken guitar whose owner put steel string instead of nylon... yes i fix them occasionally also the nut and bridge and tuners don't fit. if you wish to enlarge your range i would recommend a baritone guitar, a great instrument! you can hear pat metheny playing it in his "one quiet night" album. another option is the 7 string guitar (petruci). or the harp guitar, (like Andy mackee or Michael hedges) if its electric a pitch effect can be used as well but its not the same thing. if you want you can put lighter strings on a 6 string bass also but let a repairman do the job as it will require a set up. this can be fun but usually the tone sucks. over all artistically, and playability i think the baritone guitar is AMAZING i just tried a model by Rickenbacker and it is both affordable and amazing! if you have a guitar you really don't need you can make it a ginnie pig out of it. put heavy strings and see what happens but i wont take responsibility! take the D and G strings of a bass and put them instead of the E and A. you will want to tune the guitar 2 tones down first and only if you fill its ok take a half step up. again only if don't need the guitar, Geezer Butler did it - he was a rhythm guitarist then his band needed a bassist so he strung his guitar with bass strings. The first bass he played was borrowed!

How do you change strings of a Cort acoustic guitar?

A Cort acoustic guitar is pretty much like any other acoustic guitar. The strings are attached to the bridge by using pins (usually plastic) that are inserted into the bridge to "lock" the ball end of the string into the bridge. To replace the strings, loosen all the strings using the tuners and remove the strings from the tuners. Once the strings have been removed from the tuners, the pins in the bridge must be removed to release the strings from the bridge. Use something made of hard plastic to pry the pins up from the bridge. Do not use metal as it will scratch the finish of the bridge. Most plastic string winders have a notch in them to allow prying up the pins and not damaging the bridge. Once the pins have been removed the old strings can be removed from the guitar. While the strings are off, take a little time to clean the fret board and the area underneath the strings that is difficult to get too when the strings are installed. Use a quality guitar cleaner or polish. If you don't have any you can use a very small amount of furniture polish to help remove any residue. When you are ready to reinstall the strings, place the ball end of the first string you wish to install into the appropriate hole in the bridge and then press the pin into the hole. Then, place the other end of the string into the appropriate tuner hole. The string will be longer than necessary so insert the string until there is enough slack in the string so that there will be at least a coulple of revolutions on the tuner until the slack is taken out. The amount of slack needed is different depenting on the diameter of the string. The larger strings will only need a couple of revolutions, where the smaller strings may need four, five or six revolutions. Repeat this process for each string and when you are done, tune the guitar to standard. If you do not have a guitar tuner, you can find tuners on the internet that create the proper tones to tune the guitar too. Remember the strings will stretch for some time after being installed so it may be more difficult to maintain the instrument in tune and may require more frequent tuning initially. The time it takes for the strings to stabilize and stop stretching varies depending on the strings and how they are installed.

How does the banjo produce sound?

A banjo produces sound from string vibration. The strings rest on a wooden bridge, which is sitting on top of a banjo head, basically the same as a drum head you would find on a snare drum for instance, but special heads are made just for the banjo. When a string is plucked, the vibration travels from the string, to the bridge, then it is transmitted to the head of the banjo, so just like an acoustic guitar, no electronic amplification is needed.

Why is the guitar pick needed by the guitar player?

Cause it's hard to play the electric guitar without it, though classical guitar players use their fingers.

How often should you change acoustic guitar strings?

It depends on how often you play and the environment the guitar is stored in. If you play everyday for a few hours you may need to change them once every 1-2 months. You will notice they lose their shine and maybe get a green nasty film under them. Or if your humidity is not properly controlled they may rust out even if you're not playing often. You will notice they sound "dead" when you pluck them. This only works for metal/steel strings. If you run your finger along the bottom of the strings and you get a black/grey colour on your fingers you should consider getting new strings. It really depends on the acidity of your sweat, bear with me this is going to sound odd but everyones is differant. the higher the acidity, the more frequent you need to buy new strings. Hope i could help!

Where can one find a cello string?

One could find cello string at many musical stores or even online on ebay, amazon, and craigslist. Be careful when buying cello strings because the cello uses different strings. It would be a shame to buy the string that was not needed.
