Igneous rocks are formed by the cooling of magma (molten rock underneath the Earth's surface) or lava (molten rock on the surface). Extrusive igneous are formed on top of the surface, while intrusive igneous and plutonic are formed beneath.

Sedimentary rocks are formed by sediments being compacted and cemented. Sediments are small materials, either inorganic (broken of bits of rocks, sand, mud etc) or organic (shells, decaying life forms).

Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have been physically or chemically changed by heat and/or pressure. This can be either contact or regional. Contact is when molten rocks comes close enough to a rock to change it, etc. Regional is metamorphism that occurs over a wide region usually by the force of plate tectonics.

Why can different types of igneous rock form?

Because there are different types of magma and different pathways for that magma to cool.

Do different types of rock make different types of glass?

yes, different types of rock probably do make different types of glass

What is a rock made up of similar material that formed the planet?

There are lots of different types of rocks that form the planets.

Why are there so many types of magmas?

Because there are so many sources from which these magmas form. Different source rock = different magma composition.

How can a single magma that starts of with a certain chemical composition form several different types of igneous rock without the addition of more material?

A single magma with a unique chemical composition can form different types of igneous rock depending upon which type of magma it is. Magma can either erupt through the surface of the earth and form igneous rocks when it cools and crystallizes on the surface, or it can crystallize at depth in the earth. Each type of eruption of the same magma will produce different types of rock.

Which rock type can form by adding heat and pressure to any of the three types of rock?

A metamorphic rock.

Why are there so many types of rocks?

Different rock are made by the many different events that lead to their creation. Other rock just have different amounts and types of minerals, creating different rock with hardness, texture, color, and shape patterns.
