Two way radios are best to get clear and urgent communication between the front desk, maintenence and other departments with Housekeeping. A great way for guest room inspectors to communicate it via the voicemail/phone system in the guestrooms. If installed, once a guestroom is cleaned and inspected, the housekeeping inspector can dial a code into the phone - either Vacant/Clean or Occupied/Clean - and it will communicate this "status" to the Property Management System, so that the Front Desk agents may get "real time" lists of clean rooms. Some properties still use alpha/beta pagers. These are usally used when radio noise is unwelcome. Besides that, daily, weekly and monthly meetings to discuss VIPs arriving, special requests, etc.

The Housekeeping Department is responsible for making sure passengers are comfortable while they are in their rooms. This division takes care of the cabins, rooms, messenger and laundry services.

Jobs in this department are very similar to the jobs you will find in any five-star hotel:

There is also a separate division that does the general cleaning and maintenance of the common areas around the ship and offers jobs for cleaner / utility cleaner positions.

The laundry on a ship must run almost continually. Bed linens, towels, tablecloths, and some crew uniforms must be laundered daily. This division offers cruise line jobs for laundry supervisor and laundry man / linen keeper.

Most cuise line employ outise companies or agencies to staff these positions. It is common for English registered ships to fill these positions with European personnel, while other recruit from agencies in third world countries.
