Living in a society that values freedom of religion allows people to choose for themselves how they are to worship. It would also influence self-assurance that the religion an individual is choosing to follow is the right one for them. People are able to explore their faith and beliefs therefore these people can learn from each other. People would not be biased in their own religion; they would be less inclined to follow a certain religion because the rest of the society they are surrounded by does. There is more insight into aspects of other religions available so that people can choose. People would learn to tolerate differences in other beliefs and would allow the ability to understand religious and cultural differences including beliefs, practices, rituals, clothing and food. When people take the time to get to know another faith discrimination is minimised. Many faiths feature in aspects that are similar such as the belief in one God - this can create unity and a sense of belonging to society.
The main reason it is a disadvantage to live in a multi-faith society is that it can be confusing spiritually to people. The Bible says in John 14:6: "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to Father but through Me." Jesus is talking here.
So when you have a multi-faith society, it confuses people because everyone believes something different. The answer then is who do you listen to? Do you listen to others or to God who loves you and sent His Son, Jesus, to die for your sins so you could have peace with God among other blessings.
God gave us a way so we don't have to go to hell, but not everyone will choose His way, the only way, to be rescued. In effect, if you don't accept what He has offered, then you are sending yourself to hell. But God doesn't want you to perish and be separated from Him forever, that is why He sent Jesus to die for our sins so we could be close to Him.
Our society seems to think they need more than one way out, when one is all that is needed. If you are lost somewhere in the physical sense, you only need one right road to follow to get to safety, right?
Jesus said it this way: "Wide is the road that leads to destruction, but narrow is the road that leads to eternal life". So when you live in a multi-faith society, you are confronted with a lot of choices to believe, when only one is the true answer----the one God has provided for us.
