Well, I would be tempted to say there are none but I am sure that every silver lining has a cloud. So, I would say that microbiology has very few disadvantages and that they are completely outweighted by all the numerous advantages. But, bio-weapons could be named. However there is evidence that the bodies of those who had died of the plague were tossed over city walls during a seige, definitely used as a bio-weapon long before microbiology. And, the famous smallpox-tainted blankets that fought the battles for Spain in South America are another example. But, with the addition of science we can now be more precise, although it is hard to get more deadly. Another disadvantage might be for the scientists themselves. They are in danger of exposure to a variety of different deadly or otherwise unpleasant agents. If they don't follow protocol or if something goes wrong then they can contract the illness they are studying. Get a first hand perspective, I suppose.
