I like the way Richard Fabian defines the Rolle of the Deacon and so will use his definition as mine.
The role of the Deacon is to make the liturgical service go smoothly. The Deacon has a job, a big job. The Deacon vests for his/her job and i so doing share in ministry with the Rector and the Lay people.
