Strictly speaking, we rarely use pure iron, particularly not in tools.

Mix in a Little of some other stuff, like coal(carbon) Molybdenum, Chrome, Nickel etc you get a falmily of Alloys called steel. Steel is stronger than pure iron and more likely to be used in "iron" Tools.
