I do not believe it has a direct root. The closest i could find is that it is a religious fable. Hope this helps.

when you write simple parabole eqn. y = x^2 it means when y = 9 x = -3 and x = +3 i.e x takes 2 values for one y. So graph has to open up. why "up" beacause eqn is for positive y.

The concept of the parabola dates back to ancient Greece, with significant contributions from mathematicians such as Apollonius of Perga, who systematically studied conic sections around 200 BCE. However, the term "parabola" itself is derived from the Greek word "parabole," meaning "to place beside," which was used by Apollonius to describe the curve's geometric properties. Later developments in the study of parabolas were made by mathematicians throughout history, including those in the Islamic Golden Age and the Renaissance.
A parable is essentially a teaching tool that presents weighty, spiritual concepts through ordinary, everyday symbolism. ("Parable" is from the Greek word parabole, which means, "a placing of one thing by the side of another; a comparing; an example by which a doctrine or precept is illustrated.") Thus God's word becomes a seed, and the human heart becomes the soil into which it's sown, for example.Parables are actually more beneficial to the modern reader than they were the audiences to which they were spoken. Their meanings were deliberately veiled from all but Jesus' closest disciples (Matthew 13:10, 11); but thanks to the explanations the gospel writers recorded (and spiritual illumination from other scripture), the meanings of all Jesus' parables can be determined and understood.
