Two non polar molecules will be attracted to each other by dispersion forces (van der Waal forces).
In regards to a non-polar molecule's attraction force, you could think of electronegativity, or the tendency for atoms to draw electrons toward themselves. Electronegativity generally increases as you go from the left to right and from down to up the Periodic Table. Nonmetals are more electronegative than metals, and also have a higher ionization energy. Then there are London dispersion forces. Dispersion forces are weak temporary forces that can occur between non-polar or polar molecules. Basically, the flow of electrons about the nucleus of an atom can be random (although it is mostly predictable). So, like cars speeding around a race track (where they clump together on one side at times, then spread out, and move pretty randomly), when electrons collect on one side of a molecule temporarily, this will cause the molecule to develop a temporary and weak polarity for a very brief period of time, where one side of the molecule with be slightly negative and the other side will be slightly positive.
Van der Waals force
London Dispersion forces
These forces are called London Dispersion forces or instantaneous dipole-dipole interactions.
London Force
These ar Van der Waals forces.
Cohesion is the force of attraction between molecules of the same substance which binds the particles together.
Van der Waal Force
This is called an intermolecular force. It may be a van der Waals force, dipole-dipole attraction or a hydrogen bond.
Van der Waals forces are the weakest attractions between molecules.
force of attraction between molecules in solid is very great due to strong cohesive force holding them together
Cohesive force is the force of attraction between molecules of the same kind or of the same substance. Eg. cohesive force of attraction exists between water molecules
Cohesion is the force of attraction between molecules of the same substance which binds the particles together.
Adhesion force is the force of attraction between molecules of different kind. Eg.adhesion force exists between the molecules of water and the molecules of its containing vessel.
cohesion: the intermolecular attraction between like molecules
It is intermolecular force of attraction, it may be 1- dipole - dipole interaction, 2- vander waal's force of attraction.
Adhesion is the attraction between two molecules of different substances.cohesion is the attraction between molecules of the same substances.
Van der Waal Force
iam vipin das from kerala.................................................. i think the force of attraction between same substance is more power than force of attraction between different substance ,i prooves this based on some experiments here the newtons law of gravitation is falsifyed, for more details condact me 9947410345
This is called an intermolecular force. It may be a van der Waals force, dipole-dipole attraction or a hydrogen bond.
The attraction between substances of the same kind is called cohesive attraction or cohesive force. It is the property of similar molecules to stick together.
Van der Waals forces are the weakest attractions between molecules.
That is dispersion force.
