The three main types of Spina Bifida are:

Spina Bifida Occulta - where there is incomplete formation of the vertebral bodies, but the meninges (covering of the spinal cord) and spinal cord itself remain where they should be, inside the spinal column.

Meningocele - where there is incomplete formation of the vertebral bodies and the meninges protrude through the hole, but the spinal cord remains where it should.

Myelomeningocele - where there is incomplete formation of the vertebral bodies and both the meninges and spinal cord poke through the hole.
