Great apes are similar to us. They are different from monkeys because they have no tail. But, if your talking about the great apes from dbz, then they are known as saiyans turning into giant monkeys also called Oozaru.

Great apes refers to members of the Hominidae family. This consists of chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, and humans. So yes, as members of the Hominidae family, humans are great apes.
