The lever helps you lift objects you can't physically lift. It uses Archimedes' leverage principle.

Levers can also redirect force to make it easier to apply :

-- a hammer uses the lever principle to pull out a nail

-- seesaws balance a downward force (weight) on either side to lift the opposite side
A lever has two possible applications:

-- multiply the force you apply and make it a larger force, by sacrificing the distance

that the force moves through;

-- multiply the distance through which you move a force and make it a larger distance,

by sacrificing the strength of the force.

The product of (force) multiplied by (distance) is always the same at both ends of the lever.

But by using the lever, you trade a part of one of them in order to increase the other one.
A lever allows you to lift and elevate an object up in the air.

It gives you mechanical advantage (MA)

MA = distance moved by effort / distance moved by load

Output force = input force * MA

No, a pen is not a lever. A lever is a simple machine that consists of a rigid bar that pivots around a fixed point called a fulcrum. Pens do not typically function in this way.
