Nucleic acids include DNA and RNA. DNA is the "master molecule" of the body of all organisms and contains the hereditary code. It contains the codes (genes) of all the proteins the are both functional and structural in an organism. RNA, of which there are three basic types, are the molecules used in the production of these proteins in an organism. RNA is a copy of a segment of the DNA. All body structures and all functional proteins are made when DNA splits and nucleotides are joined to form the RNAs. RNAs are then used to process the proteins in the cell.

Since DNA contains all the genes for an organism and is self-replicating, it is essential in the passing on of the hereditary information during reproduction.

Is the cell membrane made up of lipids proteins and nucleic acid?

The cell membrane is primarily composed of lipids, specifically phospholipids. Proteins are also present in the membrane, serving various functions such as transport and cell signaling. Nucleic acids are typically found in the cell's nucleus and are not major components of the cell membrane.
