Mustang's are wild horses indiginous to the more unpopulated regions of the US in states like Montana, Texas and Wyoming. Mustang's were introduced to America by Spanish conquistadors and explorers in the early 1500's to the late 1700's. They came to be when Spanish horses were stolen by Native Americans or escaped from camps and missions. Over time, the horses from Spain that escaped, began to breed and change according to the climate and environment. They became stronger, their hooves tougher and instincts sharper in order to survive the American wilderness. Native Americans began to capture and tame them and traded them with willing settlers and explorers. In the mid to late 1800's, horses were in great demand all over the country, especially in the south, for this was the era of the cowboys and cattle drives. Mustang wrangling was a major demand and sport in those days and is probably the time when they were captured most. Now-a-days, there are wild horse and animals preserves all over the country in order to keep the population in-tact and in conrol.
