horizontal rows are called as periods

there are 7 periods in that.

caution:- the lanthanides and actinides rows (which are kept separate from the Periodic Table) are not counted in no. of periods

Periods - They are each designated by number, from top to bottom starting with one (1) [i.e. period #1 includes Hydrogen (H) & Helium (He), and so fourth]
