Are you saying, How can someone test that one is taking Butalbital? Butalbital is prescribed for people who have severe Migraine headaches and Tension Headaches. It is usually a last resort if Antidepressants do not help the Headache sufferer. The reason why Antidepressants are prescribed are to raise levels of Serotonin in the Brain. It is thought that Serotonin and Norepinephrine levels are very low in people with Migraine headaches, so they will try SSRI's first or they might go straight to TCA Tricyclic Antidepressants like Amitryptaline. I was acually prescribed Butalbital and it did not work. The Amitryptaline was a godsend!!! I swear, the next day after taking that drug my headaches were gone on a 50mg dose! Highly Recommend Amitryptaline!!! Anyways, Butalbital is also mixed with other ingredients like codeine, aspirin, or acetaminophen to help with the Pain. They are very addictive medications and should only be taken when you are certain a headache is one the way or else it does not help when the Migraine is too bad! I really didn't like the feeling very much myself. Made me very tired, but the effects I'll admit are quite nice since I do not like alcohol. It has that same sort of inhibiting effects like alcohol. They were actually prescribed once for anxiety but now, Benzodiazapines are the new drug of choice because you can't overdose on them as bad as Barbiturates. If someone out there are experiencing Migraine or Tension Headaches, Try Amitryptaline! If your Doctor says No and tries an SSRI, just tell them that I have read many good things about this medication and am not going to try an SSRI I'll go somewhere else! You need Norepinephrine levels raised too and He might recommend an SNRI like Effexor, Cymbalta or something like that. Still tell him that you want Amitryptaline! Doctors don't like to give TCA's because it is known to cause more side effects... I havn't had any other than very mild constipation which can be relieved by eating better and taking a Magnesium/Calcium supplement. WOW I am rambling on, LOL!!! Hope this helped someone out there! Peace!!!
no. butalbital is a barbituate, lortab is an opiad based drug
What is the effect of ridilan Valium and butalbital taken together
It is a mixture of Aspirin, butalbital and caffeine, Butalbital is a short- to intermediate-acting barbiturate
Butalbital should NOT be taken on a daily basis, it is addictive and long term use can also cause hepatotoxicity, especially if it is a Butalbital/Acetaminophen combination medication. It should be taken sparingly, when needed for treatment of headache pain.
Normally a Butalbital is used for Tension Headaches and used properly can stop a Migrane before it starts if you get the Auroa before a headache and take the Butalbital as soon as you sense you are getting the migrane it will help. Fiorcet is good place to start if you want more information on this drug.
No, they are 2 different chemicals.
Butalbital (5-allyl-5-isobutylbarbituric acid) is very slightly soluble in water at room temperature. It becomes moderately more soluble in boiling water. FYI, some people try to extract butalbital from Fioricet and other medications containing acetaminophen using water and filtration the same way opiates can be separated. This will not work with butalbital because it has approximately the same solubility in water as acetaminophen.

No - Butalbital is a barbiturate, and is used by itself and with other drugs like aspirin and codeine to form analgesic combination drugs. It's primary uses are as a relaxant and in analgesics an assistant in pain reduction. The brand name drug Fiorinal contains Butalbital. Penicillin is an antibiotic, used to fight infections.
Only if you mix it with Drano and bleach! Are you kidding me?
Dexedrine can be taken with barbiturates, such as butalbital.
