The ingredient responsible for the psychological effects of marijuana is THC which is short for Tetrahydrocannabinol. It acts on receptors in the Cannabinoid system in the brain.
It is hydrophobic (soluble in fat only, not in water) which means that it must be transported through the blood and is stored in fat tissue
