An ionic bond is a chemical bond where two atoms of opposite charges attract each other to form a bond. A positive ion is called a cation and a negative one is an anion. They come together to share electrons.

E.g. table salt, sodium chloride or NaCl.

Na (sodium) has a 1+ charge and Cl with a 1- charge.

They come together to form a neutral substance.
