Marijuana is a Schedule I controlled substance, meaning there is no accepted medical use, and that there is a high potential for abuse. However, in the state of California, as well as several other states, marijuana IS considered useful in treating pain associated with cancer treatment, as well as increasing appitite for those undergoing chemotherepy. In addition, Marinol, which contains THC (which is also Schedule I) the active ingredient in weed, is considered Schedule II (that's right, two!) which means there IS some medical potential. This is a clear contradiction, and it seems as though the pharmacutical company responsible for Marinol has managed to get their version of "marijuana" legalized. However, the resoning behind keeping Marijuana illegal, while allowing a pill containing THC is very unclear. The only possible explanation is that allowing people to grow or cultivate their own, legal medicine would dramatically reduce Rx profits. We wouldn't want that would we? Yes we would actually.
Smoke it.. Bake it (weed brownies).. Marijuana is used as a relaxant. Its calms the mind & is something like a downer. Makes you feel great, hungry & sleepy!

Industrial marijuana is legal. Marijuana, that can be used for intoxication purposes, is illegal.
Medical marijuana is legal with a prescription from your doctor.
Marijuana is not legal in Australia, and driving under the influence of marijuana carries severe penalties.
The only reason it's still illegal is because the FDA has classified it as a "schedule 1 drug". Schedule 1 drugs are those with no medical uses at all. However, as everyone knows it has many medical uses. The FDA also has a patent on marijuana as a brain protectant. So, once they sort out that contradiction it will be legal as it should be.
